Thanks for visiting my blog, Wyrd Vincit! I am writing this blog primarily for myself, but I thought that it was worth sharing in case there’s even a chance others could glean something from it.
So what will I be writing about? This blog will primarily be me writing about the messages of my favorite stories and what we can learn from them. I’m a strong believer in the transformative power of fiction and would like to share the effect fiction has had on me. That being said, I don’t want to be too restrictive and may occasionally write about different topics.
While this blog isn’t primarily concerned with personal matters, it is probably useful to know a little about me. As of the writing of this introduction, I am a university student studying for degrees in history and Spanish. My primary interests are history, literature, foreign language, cooking, and traveling. As will likely be shown in later entries, I’m a Christian and I strive to follow the example set by my Savior. This is likely to color my perceptions of the topics I discuss and I may examine certain topics through this lens.
I also imagine that the name of this blog appears quite alien, but I’ll explain. Wyrd is a term derived from Old English which roughly means something like “personal destiny.” However, this term also implies something about an individual’s personal origin. Taken alongside its resemblance to the modern term word, I thought this an appropriate name for a blog about the ways in which stories shape us. Vincit is simply Latin for “conquers”, so the title makes reference to the power which stories exercise over us and the ways in which they form our personal destinies.
With all that being said, thanks for reading and I hope you stick around and see what I’ve got coming up!
